HOTS Stuff with Cool Tools
reaching the transmedia generation
Enough with boring, mind-numbing test cramming! Time to develop higher order thinking skills (HOTS) inviting students to actively create and interact with information rather than passively sitting-and-getting it! Organized around the levels of Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy, this interactive multimedia presentation walks you up Bloom’s ladder, stopping to experience exemplary activities at every step along the way. And everything is designed so you can Teach It Forward.™ (Yes, you get a link to the presentation and all the resources and activities!) Starting with Level 1 (Remember), you’ll discover ways to make traditional instruction more engaging and effective. You’ll learn with Level 2 (Understanding) how to test for comprehension plus get a great, replicable activity courtesy of Nancy Duarte (who designed the slides for Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth). On Level 3 (Apply) you’ll take a fresh look at handouts, and (yuck) birds and worms. With Level 4 (Analyze) you’ll find humor with Bob Marzano and potential in Dave’s résumé – from before to after. On Level 5 (Evaluate) you’ll examine evidence for global warming, prioritize websites for images and images for comics. With Level 6 (Create) the real fun begins: transforming nectar to honey, designing musical book reports, and viewing student video productions. Moving beyond Bloom’s, you’ll experience new levels 7 & 8 (Co-create and Synchronize) and learn about transmedia and love doughnuts. You’ll never see education in the same way again!
