Ambiance for Learning
the impact of visually rich classroom environments

The research is in: students learn 60,000 times faster, and retain it 42% better with image-rich instruction. In this enlightening presentation, we expose the facts behind the research and reveal how educators can use visuals most effectively. We discuss the sociological and physiological aspects of color and how to choose colors purposefully for maximum educational impact.

We look at the physical classroom itself – how to design it to welcome every learner and to arrange it optimally for visual presentations. We share our experience with TV monitors versus projectors (Hint: Bigger is better.), our tips on lighting, ideal seating and viewing, presenter roles, and content delivery considerations.

We explain that, in the classroom, “ambiance” means more than just atmosphere. It suggests feeling at home in the space, and belonging to a community of encouragers. We applaud those educators, architects, engineers, product and service providers committed to creating schools conducive to learning, and to constructing the kind of visually rich environments where students can thrive.
